Cement with High-Strength

Cement is one of the world’s most important building materials, used globally to create durable structures. Cement is primarily composed of chalk, which is first extracted and then fired. We have chosen to sell a sustainable, high-quality Portland cement produced with minimal energy consumption. Quality is crucial, as stronger cement allows for using less material to achieve a high strength level.

Our cement is in the highest strength class, CEM 52.5, making it an environmentally friendly choice since less cement is needed to achieve the same strength. The high quality makes the cement easy to work with, delivering optimal results. With our products, castings can last for centuries and withstand high loads.

Recommended Mixing Ratio

Our cement is used with sand, gravel, or aggregate mix. We recommend a mixing ratio of 1:4 – meaning 1 part (e.g., one shovel) of cement to 4 parts of sand or casting mix. Then, add water as needed. The more water you add, the softer and thinner the concrete becomes, allowing you to adjust the consistency to suit the task. The mixture is easy to make on your own and ready to go.

Uses for Cement

Cement is a versatile material used in various types of constructions, such as masonry, floor casting, fence post casting, curbstones, and much more. Cement is easy to mix and use, making it almost foolproof. We recommend a mixing ratio of 1:4 and the use of quality casting materials with cement, such as casting mix (a mixture of stone and sand), casting sand, plastering sand, or masonry sand. Mix the material with the cement – often with a mixer – and add water as needed. The result is strong concrete, ready for use.

The Importance of Quality in Cement

Choosing high-quality cement is essential, as poor-quality cement can lead to weak concrete that crumbles over time. Cement is typically available in three different strength classes:

  • CEM 32.5: The weakest and most affordable quality, recommended for tasks without specific durability requirements.
  • CEM 42.5: A medium strength, suitable for projects without significant loads.
  • CEM 52.5: The best quality, highly durable, and resistant to load. At Maxibag.dk, we only sell cement in the CEM 52.5 quality, ensuring you get the best durability and strength.

Choosing Cement Type: Portland vs. Rap Portland

There are two main types of cement: regular Portland cement and fast-hardening rapid Portland cement.

  • Regular Portland Cement: This type achieves high strength after 28 days and is our best-selling cement.
  • Rapid Portland Cement: A fast-hardening cement that reaches high strength after just one day. Rapid cement is also acid-resistant, making it ideal for applications like stable floors exposed to ammonia.

The Difference Between Cement, Mortar, and Concrete

Different products and terms exist in the casting world, and it is essential to distinguish between them.

  • Cement is the product that binds and hardens concrete. Cement fills the air pockets in casting materials, ensuring the mixture hardens and becomes solid. Cement is the hardening element, activated when it contacts water. Cement is never used alone but always in combination with another casting product.

  • Mortar is a mixture of sand and lime, typically available in two types. One type is pit mortar, named because the sand used comes from a gravel pit or hill. The other is beach mortar, where the sand is sourced from the sea. Mortar is used as a masonry material between bricks, such as when building a house.

  • Concrete is the finished product obtained by mixing a casting material, cement, and water. A typical concrete mix consists of 4 parts casting mix, 1 part cement, and water as needed. The mixture is stirred into a thick paste, which then becomes concrete. The consistency of the concrete is adjusted with water. Adding a little water makes the concrete very stiff and allows it to stand almost vertically, which is ideal for setting foundation blocks or curbstones. Adding more water makes the concrete more fluid, which can be advantageous, for example, when laying floors.
