How Thick Should a Layer of 5-8 mm Granite Chippings Be?

Since this is the smallest size chipping, it requires the thinnest layer to adequately cover your area. The smaller the stones, the thinner the layer needed for a neat appearance.

We recommend laying a 4 cm thick layer of 5-8 mm chippings. In that case, 1000 kg of black granite chippings (5-8 mm) will cover about 14 m², and 1700 kg will cover approximately 25 m².

Black Granite Chippings 5-8 mm - Where to Use Them?

This type of stone can be used in many places, such as garden beds, pathways, courtyards, and more. It is a versatile chipping that is easy to lay, rake, and work with. We do not recommend using 5-8 mm chippings in a driveway, as this size can easily get caught in car tires, which is not ideal. It is suitable for any area without car traffic, and you should choose this if you prefer the appearance of smaller stones.

Granite Chippings and Weed Control

These chippings are very effective at preventing weeds. We always recommend laying a black weed mat (the one we sell is also black) first, and then adding the chippings on top. The best solution is to first lay a 3 cm layer of black stone dust, followed by a 4 cm layer of these black granite chippings. This creates an excellent and durable solution that will last for many years.

Color of Granite Chippings

There are many different colors of chippings, and you can see them all on our main page about granite chippings. Here, we're talking about the black variety, which has a beautiful black color. There will always be dust on the chippings when you receive them, and it may take some time, with rain and natural wear, before they are completely washed clean and the true color emerges. Expect a few months for them to be fully clean, including the tiny crevices on the stones. Black granite chippings will always be at their blackest when wet and a bit more subdued when dry. This applies to all types of stones.

The driver detaches the truck from the lorry and can drive this self-propelled forklift down paths in allotment gardens, gravel roads, on cul-de-sac plots, and on all kinds of surfaces like granite chippings, pea gravel, stable gravel, and dry lawns.

Crane Delivery

With this method, our skilled driver brings a truck equipped with a crane to your location. Choose this delivery method if you need your black granite chippings lifted over a fence or hedge, or in other situations where the maxibag needs to be lifted over something.

Please note that large crane trucks require ample space. There must be a clearance height of 4.5 meters and a width of 4 meters from the main road to the final address. The crane truck can reach a maxibag 7-8 meters away from the truck.
