How Thick Should the Layer of 16-22 mm Grey Granite Chippings Be?

We recommend laying 16-22 mm grey granite chippings in a layer about 7 cm thick. This ensures that the surface is well-covered, preventing the ground from showing through the stones. In garden beds, a thicker layer can be applied to make it more difficult for weeds to grow through.

When installing grey granite chippings, it's beneficial to lay down grey stone dust first, followed by the chippings. The stone dust should be applied in a 3-5 cm layer and then compacted. The grey chippings are then placed on top.

Where to Use 16-22 mm Grey Granite Chippings?

These chippings are commonly used in garden beds due to their larger size. However, they are also sometimes used in driveways when a slightly rougher appearance is desired. Keep in mind that they can be difficult to cycle on, and if the area sees a lot of foot traffic, smaller chippings might be more suitable. Ultimately, it all depends on your preference.

Preventing Weeds in Granite Chippings

Granite chippings are generally effective for minimizing weed growth, especially when they are placed in areas with regular foot or vehicle traffic. The sharp edges of the chippings cut through the roots, reducing weed spread. However, those same sharp edges can make it harder to manage if weeds do take hold.

That’s why we always recommend using a weed barrier whenever possible. It’s the best way to keep weeds at bay. Choose a high-quality fabric, like the one we offer, as it will last for many years. Cheaper, cloth-based weed barriers break easily and offer little protection.

Grey Stone Dust Under Granite Chippings

For a deluxe solution, you can apply grey stone dust beneath the grey granite chippings in addition to using a weed barrier. This is especially recommended for garden beds, providing the best defense against weeds, saving you the hassle of frequent maintenance.

Granite chippings are heavy, so it's important to have them delivered as close as possible to where they will be used. Our goal is to offer the best possible customer experience, providing flexible delivery options in terms of both equipment and delivery speed.

We Offer Three Different Delivery Methods

Standard Delivery

Our standard delivery, also known as "sidewalk/driveway," is ideal if you want your Maxibag placed on the road, by the curb, on the pavement, or just inside your driveway. This delivery method is free. We recommend specifying the exact location where you want the product placed in your order, so the driver can follow your instructions.

Delivery with Mobile Forklift

If you need your Maxibag placed using a self-driving forklift with rubber wheels, this delivery option is perfect. Our driver will arrive with a truck that has a special forklift attached to the back. The forklift can be detached and used to move the product to your desired location. It can maneuver on solid surfaces like stone, gravel, dry grass, asphalt, and dirt roads, and is often used for deliveries to garden allotments where larger trucks may struggle to access.

Our forklifts are approximately 2.5 meters wide and 2.8 meters high. We generally avoid driving on paved surfaces, as the weight can cause damage, as well as on grass and other delicate surfaces.

Crane Delivery

This delivery method is perfect if you need your Maxibag of granite chippings lifted over a fence or hedge. It’s also useful if the product needs to be lifted over an obstacle and into a garden or other area. Our driver will arrive with a truck equipped with a crane to place the product exactly where you need it.

Please note that crane trucks require ample space. From the main road to the delivery location, there must be a clearance of 4.5 meters in height and 4 meters in width. The crane can extend up to 7-8 meters away from the truck.
