How Thick Should the Layer of 8-11 mm Grey Granite Chippings Be?

When laying these grey granite chippings, we recommend a minimum layer of 5 cm, especially in garden beds. A 5 cm layer ensures good coverage, and if you need to top up later, we always supply the same type if you reorder.

Where to Use 8-11 mm Grey Granite Chippings?

These grey chippings are often used in garden beds or pathways. Being the smallest of the grey chipping sizes, they are comfortable to walk on. The small size creates a nearly flat surface, which is visually pleasing wherever they are used. We do not recommend using this size in driveways, as the small stones can get stuck in car tires. For that purpose, we suggest using the 11-16 mm size instead.

How to Prevent Weeds in Granite Chippings?

Granite chippings are generally a good choice when aiming to reduce weed growth, especially if placed in areas where they will be walked or driven on. The sharp edges of the chippings cut through the roots, minimizing growth. However, these sharp edges can also be a drawback if weeds take hold. For this reason, we always recommend using a weed barrier where possible. This is the most effective way to prevent weeds. Make sure to choose a high-quality fabric, like ours, which lasts for many years. Cheaper, cloth-based weed barriers break easily and offer little protection.

Grey Stone Dust Underneath Granite Chippings

For a more premium solution, consider laying grey stone dust underneath the grey granite chippings, in addition to using a weed control fabric. This is especially useful in garden beds, providing an additional barrier against weeds, making maintenance much easier.

We Offer Three Different Delivery Options

Standard Delivery

Our standard delivery, also known as "sidewalk/driveway," is ideal if you want your Maxibag placed on the road, by the curb, on the pavement, or just inside your driveway. This is a free delivery option. We recommend including specific instructions for placement in your order to help the driver navigate.

Delivery with Mobile Forklift

If you need your Maxibag moved using a self-driving forklift with rubber wheels, this option is the best fit. Our driver will arrive with a truck carrying a special forklift attached to the back. The forklift can be detached from the truck and driven to your desired location. It can navigate various solid surfaces such as stones, gravel, dry grass, asphalt, and dirt roads. It is also frequently used for deliveries in garden allotments, where larger trucks might struggle to reach.

Our forklifts are about 2.5 meters wide and 2.8 meters high. We generally avoid driving on paved surfaces, as the heavy weight can cause damage. The same applies to grassy areas and other delicate surfaces.

Crane Delivery

This delivery method is suitable if you need your Maxibag of granite chippings lifted over a fence or hedge. It can also be used to reach areas where the product needs to be lifted over an obstacle and into a garden or another space. Our driver will arrive with a truck equipped with a crane to place the product exactly where you need it.

Please note that crane trucks require sufficient space. From the main road to the delivery address, there must be a clearance of 4.5 meters in height and 4 meters in width. The crane can extend up to 7-8 meters away from the truck.
