Effective drainage is crucial for a healthy lawn, especially after wet periods, which can otherwise lead to holes and unevenness. Our screened topsoil contains small stones which, together with the washed sand, create perfect drainage. This ensures that excess water is quickly led away from the surface, preventing waterlogged areas.

If your garden has a more clay-rich subsoil beneath the top dressing, water absorption may be limited. In these cases, we recommend applying a slightly thicker layer of top dressing. Alternatively, you can gradually even out any unevenness by applying a thin layer of top dressing as needed. The integrated natural fertiliser slowly releases nutrients that support healthy grass growth and contribute to a denser and more resilient lawn.

How to Lay or Renovate Your Lawn with Top Dressing

1. Prepare the Soil: Start by preparing the underlying area. Remove weeds, stones and other unwanted material. Use top dressing as a levelling layer or as an extra layer if necessary. If you are using the existing soil, it is a good idea to mix in additional soil conditioner and washed sand to optimise nutrient content and drainage.

2. Level and Compact: Make sure the area is as level as possible and well compacted. This can be done with a roller to press air out of the top layer and ensure that small stones are pressed down. If you do not have a roller, a pallet can be dragged across the area to minimise larger unevenness.

3. Sowing Grass Seed: Lightly rake the top layer of the top dressing so the grass seed has something to hold on to. Spread the grass seed evenly over the entire area. Avoid sowing in direct, strong sunshine. The best time to sow grass is in spring or autumn when temperatures are mild – avoid frost or intense heat.

IMPORTANT: Grass seed must be watered 2-3 times a day for the first 3-4 weeks. The soil must be kept constantly moist so the seeds do not dry out. Once they start to germinate, you can gradually reduce the watering.

It is important that your maxibag of top dressing is placed optimally – close to where it will be used and out of the way if you do not use it all at once.

You can choose between the following three delivery methods:

• Delivery to Pavement / Driveway: The goods are delivered at the kerb or on your pavement. It is also possible to have the bulk bag placed one metre inside your driveway. Please state your wishes in the order for precise placement, so the driver can deliver perfectly even if you are not at home.

• Delivery by Mobile Forklift: This popular method involves a special forklift with pneumatic tyres that can drive on many surfaces such as shingle, gravel and stone, both at private addresses and in allotments. Ideal for holiday home areas with narrow roads. The forklift measures approx. 2.5 metres in width and 2.8 metres in height.

• Delivery by Crane: Do you need your bulk bag lifted over a hedge or a fence? With this method, the driver brings a lorry with a crane that can lift your top dressing exactly where you want it. Our crane lorries can reach approximately 7 metres from the lorry.
