Top Dress / Lawn Dressing

Top Dress - Soil for Lawns

Approved for organic farming

Who doesn't dream of a beautiful green lawn? Every house has a lawn. An area where we meet, have barbecues, play football, have fun and spend time together. We all want our lawn to look sharp and even, so we can enjoy spring and summer without worrying too much about weeds and holes in the lawn.
Whether you are establishing a new lawn or restoring an existing one, our top dressing is exactly the right choice. Here you get just the right composition of screened topsoil, washed sand and a natural fertiliser (soil conditioner), which provides the very best conditions. All products are from the Grobund™ range and meet strict quality requirements. That is why this mix is approved for organic farming.

The right mix for the best drainage

Good drainage is incredibly important for your lawn. Otherwise, holes and unevenness will quickly appear – especially after a wet season. The screened topsoil therefore contains small stones which, together with the washed sand, provide the right drainage. This allows water to drain away from the surface quickly, avoiding the waterlogged areas that cause these very problems.
If you have clay soil beneath the layer of top dressing, there are naturally limits to how much water can be absorbed. If you are aware of this, it can be an advantage to apply a slightly thicker layer. Alternatively, when unevenness occurs, you can apply a thin layer at regular intervals and repair the damage.

Top-quality grass seed

Grass seed comes in several qualities, and a good-quality mix makes an enormous difference to the final look. The chances of a good result improve significantly if you choose high-quality grass, and it never pays to economise in this area. In the worst case, it can be wasted work if you have to sow grass again. Together with our top dressing, you can buy PrimeGarden grass seed, which is of the very best quality. This way you can be sure of getting the best possible result.

How to make a lawn

Start by preparing the underlying soil as well as you can. Remove weeds, stones and other unwanted material. Use top dressing as an extra layer / levelling layer if necessary. If you choose to use the existing soil, it is a good idea to mix in soil conditioner and washed sand to provide good nutrition and good drainage.
Make sure the area is as level as possible and at the same time well compacted, so the air is pressed out of the top layer. This can be done with a water-filled roller. If you do not have access to machinery, you can drag a pallet across the area. This will minimise larger unevenness. When you roll the area, the small stones will be pressed down into the soil and will not become a problem later.

Lightly rake the top layer so the grass seed has something to bind to. Sprinkle grass seed evenly over the entire area, preferably at a time when the sun will not scorch the seeds. It is best to sow grass in spring or autumn – but not in frost or intense heat.

IMPORTANT: Grass seed must be watered 2-3 times a day for the first 3-4 weeks. The soil must be kept constantly moist so the seeds do not dry out. Once they start to germinate, you can gradually reduce the watering.

Top dressing for lawns, also known as lawn dressing

Top dressing is also often referred to as lawn dressing, and it covers the same product used to improve your lawn. Lawn dressing is an effective solution if you want a denser, greener and more uniform lawn. When you apply top dressing to your lawn, you add a nutrient-rich layer that helps the grass grow stronger and more evenly. At the same time, lawn dressing helps level out small irregularities and improve the soil structure, giving the roots better conditions. At Maxibag you will find high-quality top dressing that is suitable for both new lawns and the maintenance of existing lawns. Whether you call it top dressing or lawn dressing, you get a solution that makes it easy to achieve a beautiful and well-kept result in the garden.

Delivery of top dressing - soil for lawns

At Maxibag, we are very keen to ensure that your delivery is made in the way that is absolutely best for you. That is why we have built a transport system that lets you choose exactly the delivery method that suits you best. It is important that your maxibag is placed in the best possible position for you – both so that it is delivered as close as possible to where you will use it, and so that it is not in the way if you do not use it all at once.

You can choose between the following three delivery methods:

Delivery to pavement / driveway

With this delivery method, the goods are delivered either at the kerb or on your pavement. The haulier can also set the goods down just one metre inside your driveway if you wish. Please include a good description in your order of where you would like your maxibag delivered. This makes it easy for our drivers to place the goods perfectly for you, so you do not need to be at home for the delivery.

Delivery by mobile forklift

This delivery method is very popular with our customers. The driver brings a special forklift with pneumatic tyres that can drive in a great many places. It can drive on shingle, gravel and stone and down gravel roads, both at your private address and in allotments. It is a particularly good solution in holiday home areas with narrow roads.

The forklift is approx. 2.5 metres wide and 2.8 metres high.

Delivery by crane

This delivery method is the right one if the goods need to be placed over a hedge or a fence. The driver brings a lorry with a crane that can lift your bulk bag of top dressing and place it where you want it.

Our crane lorries can place your maxibag approx. 7 metres away from the lorry.
