Aggregate Mix in Size 0-16 mm
Aggregate mix 0-16 mm is our coarsest blend of stone and gravel for casting. It is well-composed and ready to use. This mix includes casting sand/gravel and stones up to 16 mm in size. (Remember, stone size is always measured by the shortest side.) The convenience of this pre-mixed aggregate is that you don’t need to think about the stone-to-sand ratio for concrete. It’s already balanced according to professional standards, so all that’s left is to add cement and a bit of water for a perfect and durable concrete mix.
What’s the Difference Between Aggregate Mix 0-8 mm and 0-16 mm?
The difference between these two aggregate mixes is the size of the stones included. The casting sand/gravel is the same for both products, but the stone sizes differ. In the 0-8 mm mix, stones are up to 8 mm, while in the 0-16 mm mix, stones are up to 16 mm in size. Neither mix is “better”; both yield equally strong concrete in the final product. Your choice depends on whether you prefer a slightly coarser or finer concrete to work with. You can read about our 0-8 mm mix here.
Which Cement Should I Use with Aggregate Mix 0-16 mm?
We recommend a cement in strength class CEM 52.5, the strongest cement type available. This cement provides the best possible result, ensuring longevity. While blending time is the same with lower-quality versus high-quality cement, using a good cement will yield a superior result that lasts many years. On this site, we offer an option to purchase Portland cement in strength class CEM 52.5.
How to Mix Concrete with Aggregate Mix 0-16 mm
Mixing high-quality concrete with our aggregate mix is straightforward. The best approach is to use a concrete mixer. While it’s possible to mix in a bucket, a mixer usually achieves better consistency. Start with a 1:4 mix ratio (one part cement to four parts aggregate mix).
- Start by pouring half a bucket of water into the mixer.
- Add four shovels of aggregate mix, then one shovel of cement, and another half bucket of water.
- Repeat with another four shovels of aggregate mix and one shovel of cement. A typical mixer holds approximately eight shovels of aggregate mix and two shovels of cement.
You can adjust the water depending on how dry or wet you want the concrete. More water makes it fluid, while less keeps it drier. Add water gradually to avoid over-watering, giving it time to absorb and show the mix's true consistency. Once satisfied, pour the concrete into a wheelbarrow, and you’ll have a high-quality mix ready to go. Repeat the process as needed.
